This course will help any ESL student who wants to improve their speaking. The focus will be on understanding some important areas of grammar, mostly involving verbs. It's for people who want to be effective in their written and spoken usage without making so much effort going through hundreds of pages of relatively useless topics. This site is also useful to native speakers who want to learn just a little about their own grammar. The focus is on the most important BASICS of speaking (firstly) and writing (secondly).
It is most important for ESL students to understand that native speakers will understand them regardless of how many mistakes are made. This is because native speakers understand the powerful and super-organized structures described at this site, which allow flexibility of expression and maximize comprehension.
So relax and enjoy the limited scope. It's all you need to communicate well, combined with one's extant vocabulary and study experience. Especially, enjoy the verb TO HAVE.
There is also a section which will explain all you need to know about Commonwealth and American English's richness of variety, while highlighting the main differences between them. The main message is to understand the differences and utilize whichever work best for the individual in the appropriate environment.
ALWAYS REMEMBER that the first step in speaking any foreign language is doing it
with one's native tones and pronunciation. NEVER worry about accents. The beauty
of English is that it welcomes all accents as enrichment of what already exists and
as input for future development. The same goes for words, phrases, etc. Just look
what James Brown, using the adjective GOOD, did to the adverb WELL with his song
“I feel good”---he sent WELL into oblivion. So don't be too self-conscious and don't
compare anyone's usage with others. English is the language of external inputs. Just
grow and thrive!!!
